When I got the call that some representatives from NASCAR were coming to Tallahassee for a function and they wanted me to be a part of it, I didn’t expect it to be the big deal that it was. Having the opportunity to represent yourself and your sport at your state capital is a great honor. I had a great time at the Governor’s Mansion and have to say it was an honor to represent the great state of Florida on behalf of NASCAR. Regardless of your politics anytime you have an opportunity to do something like that is very special and I enjoyed every minuet of it.

I have been looking forward to this race for a long time. I had such a great time driving in the Nationwide races last year I couldn’t wait to get back in one again. I knew this time was going to be a little different with the new car and my first race in one being at a road course was a challenge I was looking forward to. Before we get to that I do want to talk about the start of the trip this week. We flew into Chicago for a meeting at Feld Motorsports HQ in Aurora, IL. They asked me and Jeremy (McGrath) to design the track for the upcoming Monster Energy Cup. Monster is putting up $1,000,000.00 to whoever can win 3 ten lap races on a hybrid MX/SX track. They definitely are wanting to go big with this event and the first thing they let me know once we got the meeting started was “there are no “no’s” in this room, anything is possible!” With that we got started! You will have to stay tuned for more details and see how this is going to turn out. I think it is going to be awesome. With the Monster Million up for grabs and the best riders in the world racing a no points race for it should be really exciting. You can follow the progress of the event here and here.

So my trip to the Ohio for the Prelude was just the beginning of a very crazy weekend. We headed straight back to the airport after the race (Me, Horn and Austin) and 9 hours after we landed we were on our way to Texas, by the time we landed it was a 23 hour day! Our practices went really good on Thursday and I felt we were going to be good for the race. Before we got to qualify the Texas Motor Speedway PR people lined up some really cool experiences for me. I got my first drifting experience with 2010 Formula Drift Rookie of the Year Fredric Aasbo, along with IndyCar Series driver Graham Rahal. I was really impressed with the skill they had in the car, there was way more to it than I thought! From there I got to ride in the 2 seater Indy car with Mario Andretti. That was a huge surprise and the ride was very cool. Although I just spent 2 practices on the track it was neat to experience the difference in an Indy car. Way different from my seat in the truck! I have to say it was quite a 24 hours. The speedway did an article on it you can read here.

Man what a day! It started out with a 6am flight to Charlotte, I wanted to check in at the shop and check on my guys. I spent a few hours there and left feeling really good about our truck for Texas. I met up with Horn (Ron Hornaday) and Lindy and we drove up to Lexington to hop on the plane with Austin (Dillon). A quick flight to Ohio and we were ready to get out on the dirt. I really can’t say enough about Tony Stewart and his team, the Prelude is an amazing event and they do a great job organizing it! I can’t imagine the hours they put in coordinating all the different drivers and people who are involved. I have to say I was feeling alot more confident heading there this year than last. For one, I had last years experience under my belt so I knew what to expect and I also had a good test with Shane (McDowell) and the TDR guys in Virgina so with that I felt my 5th time in a dirt car should go pretty good.

After Charlotte I was really looking forward to getting to Kansas, I really enjoy going to that track, it is one of the nicest facilities we go to. Every time we go I’m amazed how much more stuff has been built at the speedway. We took the team plane in on Thursday and found a great place to eat downtown, Jack Stack’s. After a great dinner it was back to the hotel. Since we got in early I had a little time to play some Motocross Matchup. The latest version of the game is really awesome the guys at 2XL have done a great job working out the bugs and it is really a lot of fun to play. If you haven’t checked it out yet be sure to check it out in the iTunes store. Friday was just a practice day for the Truck guys and we got off to a great start. I felt really good in the truck and the team did a great job getting us ready during one of the tougher schedules we face this season with us racing in Kansas this week and Texas next week.
