I have been really fortunate to meet some great people over the years and one of the coolest guys I have had the chance to become friends with is Jamie Spears (yes Britney’s dad). Jamie is a huge moto enthusiast and can be found at local amateur and pro races all over the country. He loves it like I do. For awhile now he has been telling me we have to come see him sometime at one of Britney’s concerts, and with our crazy schedules it never seems to work out. Well finally we got things to line up and off to Jacksonville we went to see Jamie at the Femme Fatale tour stop there. Jamie rolled out the red carpet for my wife and I and a couple friends. I have seen lots of productions before like NASCAR, Supercross and Moto GP races but the logistics of a huge production like a Britney Spears concert was unbelievable.

After my last race here I was hoping to make some progress on our finish. The trip was way different than our spring stop, this time we made it a one day trip flying up in the morning and flying home after the race. With the time change it makes it pretty easy on the travel. We unloaded much like we have the last few weeks. Our speed seems to be a tick off but we have been pretty good in race trim. We worked to do what we could to make it better and seemed to have made some progress. Once the race got going we were much like we have been the last few weeks which has been frustrating but that’s racing. You gotta keep working at it and try to find something that works. I trust my Turner Motorsports team will keep digging and find us something we can work with.

Iowa

July - 18 - 20111 COMMENT

I really like going to Iowa, I have a great fan base out there and they always turn out to support me at that race. The facility is really good and I enjoy the track so I have to say I was excited to get back there to race. The trip up was good and we started off pretty good in practice so I finally thought we were turning the corner. I had a bunch of appearances at this event which gave me a great chance to meet a lot of the fans. It started with a track autograph session and from there it was on to the Team Chevy display http://www.facebook.com/TeamChevy followed by a radio interview and meet and greet with our Monster Energy guests. At the start of the race my truck was really good in race trim and we were moving up pretty fast making some good passes and unfortunately I made a small mistake and hit the wall. Fortunately the Damage wasn’t very bad and actually I think it helped us a little because I was able to do some things on the track I wasn’t able to before.

It may have been the inaugural event for the cup guys but for us in the truck series we are no strangers to racing in Kentucky. I was really looking forward to this race since I have had some good success there in the past. It is also a great event for the Monster Energy crew. The local Monster rep rolls out the red carpet for his guests. We had a pretty decent practice and I feel like we sorted out a few of the issues we had been dealing with the last few weeks but we still weren’t where we needed to be. Unfortunately we didn’t get the result we wanted but hopefully some of the things we found will help us mover forward to next week in Iowa.

So after a great Nationwide race at Road America and an awesome event at the Governor’s mansion I couldn’t wait to get back to the track and especially since it was Daytona. That place is special to me and every opportunity I get to race there I get a little more excited than normal. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate for us and my plan for making laps in the two car tandem didn’t work out so well. One 45 min practice is all we got and I only got 5 laps of tandem during that session. I was happy I went to Talladega to at least watch the race and try to pick up what I could. So with 5 laps of practice and 2 qualifying laps it was ready or nothing.
