So after the race was finished at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway I had to hurry up and make it over to Sam Boyd Stadium for the Monster Energy Cup. I couldn’t wait to get there and see if someone was really going to win the Monster Million. The speedway was kind enough to let me use their spa to get a shower and after a couple interviews we were off to the stadium. Just like I had moto guys come check out the Truck race I had a bunch of people want to come check out the SX race. That to me is one of the coolest things about the position I am in. It is fun for me to be able to expose different groups of people to different forms of racing. Most of the people on both the 2 and 4 wheel sides had never been to the others racing before so it was the perfect opportunity to show them how it all works. I think after the both races both sides have a greater appreciation for the others side and new respect for how difficult the racing can be. Once I got to the stadium I had to go straight to my TV production meeting, I was going to be in the booth with Jeff Emig and Ralph Sheheen again and Erin Bates was our pit reporter just like a SX race but that is where the similarities ended. Monster Energy, Speed and Feld wanted to showcase this race as something different, I think that is why they had me and MC design the track and why Monster put up the million dollars. When I got on the plane to Vegas I knew I was in for a long couple weekend. It didn’t help I was just one day back from my trip to Greece! The logistics weren’t too bad but whenever you have lots of big events going on in the same weekend it makes for a busy schedule. It started with press conference for the truck race and some interviews around my weekend and my involvement in the Monster Energy Cup race. I would also be running the Monster Million logo on my truck again so that was another cool part of the weekend. With the SX race in town I also had the chance to invite some of my friends from the moto side to come over and see how we do it on the 4 wheel side. Jeff Emig, Davey Coombs (from Racer X), Simon Cudby, Anthony Paggio (Oakley) were just a few, along with my friends from Cometic Gasket and 2XL Games. We had a great practice and knew we were going to have a good truck for the race. We also knew racing around noon Vegas time was going to make for a hot and slick track! Athens SX

I never really thought that I would ever make it to Greece but when I found out I had the opportunity to go I couldn’t wait.

We started off on a good note, sitting up front in business class on our way from JFK to Greece. I was going over on behalf of Monster Energy for the Monster Energy Athens Supercross.

We landed in Athens mid morning last Thursday and the fun began. We were accompanied by the marketing guys from Monster at the airport where they brought us to our hotel, which was awesome, and we started are weekend off. As a kid growing up in little town in Florida primarily known for its Greek ethnic background, I was somewhat aware of Greece’s history. Well I was finally able to see firsthand what I had learned about in school growing up. Our first stop was the Acropolis; words cannot describe how awesome it was to see it in person. We spent a lot of time there checking out everything that was there and it blew my mind at how big it all was for when it was built, especially the Parthenon (437 BC!) and how they actually were even capable of doing it back then. I thought one of the coolest parts of the Acropolis was the historical amphitheater, which is actually still used to this day for special events or concerts. The following day, before the that evenings race, we got to check out the fairly new Acropolis museum which had a ton of ancient artifacts that were found and stored from the Acropolis. And the third and final stop was the temple. We had an amazing drive along the coast line of Greece to check that out. I was amazed at how beautiful the terrain was. I have some more pics posted on my Facebook page. Read the rest of this entry »

When I’m talking about getting lucky I mean from the last few races that we have had. Finishing 6th this weekend was a nice start to a new change with a new crew chief and pit crew. The weather was nice and cool all weekend so grip wasn’t going to be much a problem and getting the truck to handle at high speeds in the corners was what it was going to take. We unloaded pretty good as far as handling was concerned. The whole time throughout practice I was having a lot of fun because we were in the mix the whole time and that always makes it nice, the changes we were making were relatively small in the world of truck set ups but can sometimes have a substantial effect. So here it is…. the Monster Energy Track. Thanks to everyone who sent in their messages to my Facebook and Twitter. One of the overwhelming things you all wanted to see was the track go up into the stands again so we hope you like that it was added to the final design. Let us know your thoughts on the track and if you are heading to the race we will see you there! Read the rest of this entry »

Oh the “Magic Mile”, I always like going to there to race. Ever since the first time I made a lap there I have liked that track. My first two races in Louden were great races for me which as a racer always makes it fun to go back to and something to look forward to when you run good at a track. My expectation and anticipation was high coming into the weekend for the very reasons as I just said above. I also enjoy going to that area in New England and that always makes the trip better when you look forward to going to a place you have fun at off the track. As we fired off for the first practice scuffing are race tires in I couldn’t wait to put on are practice set and get going and putting in some good laps and getting to work on our race set up. Chicagoland

September - 19 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

I finally feel like we were on a roll after the last few weeks and when we first got to Chicago the cool weather and atmosphere being the first race in the Chase had me fired up to get racing. We got to the track a little early to do some media and once that was done we headed across the street to watch the off road truck races. The track was right next to where we raced a SX race at the dragstrip in 2000. Bubba was in the truck race and did pretty good especially since it was only his 2nd time racing one of those things. You could really see as the race went on how he was using some of his moto skills in looking for lines and setting guys up. It got really cold so we headed out since we had work to do the next day. We again unloaded good and had it going good in practice. We again qualified good and just missed another pole by I think 7 hundredths. That shows you how close car racing is compared to moto. I can’t tell you how many times I look at the speed charts and can’t believe how close the field is. Another reason I was excited about the race is because we were running a new paint scheme for the race promoting the Monster Energy Cup race in October. Read the rest of this entry »

I talked a little a couple weeks ago about my charity golf tournament that benefits ECHO. I really can’t say enough about the organization and how much they do to help local families in need here in Tallahassee. It really is a great organization made up of some special people who work really hard to make a difference in our community. So this year I was again looking forward to the tournament and contributing to the cause. We had another great turn out and I am really proud of how well the group did putting the event together. You would think the logistics of a golf tournament wouldn’t be that difficult but when you see it all come together and how many people are involved you really appreciate the hard work of a small group of dedicated people many who do it for free and sacrifice their time to help make it a great event. To everyone involved a huge thanks and I can’t wait to do it again next year and make it even better! Read the rest of this entry »
